Excerpt from "Toronto between the covers"

Toronto Star - Sunday, September 24, 2006 - page A6

Bookmarks - As the city celebrates Word on the Street, we consider the literary purchases of people throughout the city.  What do the hot-selling novels, memoirs, histories, chronicles, sagas, graphic works and kiddie fantasies at a selection of local bookstores tell us about ourselves? By Christian Cotroneo

THIS AIN'T THE ROSEDALE LIBRARY (Bookstore)183 Church Street

Three years (error) after his death, Gordon Stewart Anderson's THE TORONTO YOU ARE LEAVING, a novel chronicling the city's gay scene in the 1970s and 80s, is a top seller here. That says a lot about this Village bookshop and its vibrant locale. But it also speaks volumes about an unflappable mother who edited and published the manuscript on her own. The book had made the usual rounds in the publishing world before she took it in her own hands. Today, it's finding a lot of hands, selling briskly at this little bookshop.
